Re: wire wheels

Having searched (eBay, alfa parts lists, Hemmings) every day of my recent
life for an affordable set of wires to fit my 72 Spider, I am totally
depressed by their obvious rarity, as evidenced by this thread, not to
mention their lack of popularity among Alfisti. Yes, I covet the damn
things--I think they're beautiful. Borrani's, alloy rims, bead-laced---are
my dream! I'd settle for Daytons. None seem available used, except a
beautiful set of blue-sky-priced Borranis on eBay a couple of years ago
(shown on a ~80 Spider). I even bought an E-type wheel, just to hold it
next to my car. Yes, I'm crazy--I have Dayton's on my 71 Jag saloon, for
example. Very heavy, defeat the purpose of the inboard brakes. I have
Kelsey-Hays OE knock-off wires on my 64 Corvair convertible. Only 600 sets
made, and I love them. Problem is, they are 13 inch and there are no
decent tires available. This has been a wonderful discussion--I delight in
just hearing about wire wheels, impractical though the are. Thanks for all
the interesting stories.
