Exhaust Manifold Removal
Bob;
It's not to bad if you have a lift. I just replaced the two gaskets going to
the catalytic convert, for the second time. I have a lift, but if you can get
the front of the car high enough you should be able to do it. You will need a
swivel socket and an off-set open wrench to make it easier. And if you have an
impact wrench quicker.
Going back together will be a little harder. I use a pair of long needle nose
pliers to put two of the impossible to reach bolts into the holes and pull
them through with a magnet. You can then reach your hand up there and hold it
while you put the nut and washer on with the socket and an extension. I use a
little "Permagum" (like putty) to hold the nut and washer on the socket. Crude
but it works. You can get Permagum at Grainger's, it's a big roll, cheap and
last forever. It has many other uses, like sealing leaks etc.
While I'm waiting for my cylinder head to come back, I'd like to remove the
exhaust manifold and paint/or podwer coat it. Any easy way to get to the
13mm bolts or is it all just knuckle smashing agony?
