Re: GTV6 condenser

Interesting theory. If I were 20 years old, and if we were talking about a Spider, I might even partially agree. The Air Conditioner could be viewed, in some places, as an extravagance and when I was kid, I simply didn't care about such things. But I'm far from a kid any more and a GTV-6 is a different proposition altogether. First of all, it isn't a Spider, its a coupe. Secondly, its a coupe with a large, sharply raked windshield, lots of side glass and a big, again, sharply raked, rear window. In short the cabin is a natural greenhouse. Many a time I've set in hours of bumper-to-bumper traffic in my GTV-6 coming back from say- the Concorso Italiano or the Historics in Monterey with sweat pooling in my shoes. Don't need an air conditioner? I don't know what kind of hair shirt you wear, but I see no reason not to be comfortable in a car no matter how how fast it's supposed to be. There are times where being comfortable is as important to the driving experience as is a willing engine and good set of performance tires. Nice thing about an air conditioner is that you can turn it off, and here in the SF Bay Area, most days one doesn't need an air conditioner, even in the summer - we have our own natural one called the North Pacific fog bank. But on days where we do, I want to be able to attend Alfa Club events, and get there fresh as a daisy, not wilted like last week's lettuce.

I think there is a reason that air conditioners work so poorly in
Alfas--they are antithetical to the basic concept of the car, not to
mention its spirit. Why would anybody spend thousands on performance
mods, then shackle them with a slow-turning, heavy-weighted air
conditioner that works marginally well at best? If you drive fast
enough, you don't need an air conditioner, no matter how hot it is.
