RE: Freebies
Must agree with Will O, (and Fred and others) that club newsletters and much
of club activity has commercial interest, but not all must be directly
charged in order to be of benefit to the organization. Many good people will
donate their valuable time, and many, if not most, do not feel the need for
direct reimbursement beyond self satisfaction.
The amount of benefit and goodwill to a group is not readily measured,
either! Networking, if you will. The AROO Alfa bits is available free at one
or more of the advertiser locations, and while they may or may not be
reimbursing the club, not sure, I imagine that even if not, the advertisers
all appreciate a wider audience for their message. I know I took advantage
of free AROO stuff for many years (82 to 1002 as I recall) while I was
"between Alfa's", but eventually my keeping in touch by checking the web and
newsletters or club activities at the track did get me as a paying
subscriber to club activities after finally getting back to owning another.
Reading the bits helped convince me to buy the Alfa too. It also kept the
advertisers in my mind and did bring them the value they pay for during that
seeming dry spell that I was not readily identifiable as part of a group.
If this sort of discussion has been a topic in the Oregon club before I
finally joined last year, I have not seen it, and the club seems to thrive
quite well! What they have been doing seems to work darn well, at least in
my opinion. Members only areas of another organization that I use to belong
to was a big factor in my leaving them. It conveys impressions I don't find
admirable, and those impressions are important.
Until proven otherwise, these beliefs are what guides my business interests
these days.
