Targa Tasmania

My brother must have the coolest job. Mike Besic of Besic Motorsports
restores classics, fabricates and drives race cars and gets invited to act as
crew chief for several race teams at some pretty awesome locales, such as
Bonneville (SpeedWeek) and Mexico (La Carrera Panamerican) to name two. This
past Sunday, he jetted off to the Land Down Under to crew for the intrepid
team of co-drivers from Chicago, Patrick Bowling and Martin Hancock, for
their attempt in Targa Tasmania 2003. Their car, a 1960 Alfa Romeo Giulietta
Sprint, the class winner in La Carrera 2001, was crated and shipped by
container ship over a month ago and has been sitting in Melbourne for several
days, patiently waiting for the short ferry ride to the island of Tasmania.
Patrick and Martin, and the team wrench and photog, Steve Crowley, arrived on
Saturday, with Mike Besic scheduled to arrive Sunday evening.

Early reports indicate that "scrutineering" (tech inspection) went without a
hitch and the boys were ready to begin the rallye on Monday (5/12). The team
has determined that the Aussies REALLY take their ralleying seriously. Its
already Tuesday and no word yet from the drivers or crew. The suspense is
killing me!

To keep up with the team's progress, stay tuned to Chicago AROC's website:
www.caroc.com, where the webmeister, John Katos, plans to post daily reports
and pictures.
