164LS LCD and California Smog

Yes, the two of you that said the LCD is German have reminded me of what the
local 164 expert told me: most of the failed parts he takes off of 164 cars
are stamped "Bosch"! He said that when my wiper arm assembly disintegrated
at 15K miles. I was actually talking about "perception" of others that ride
in my car (e.g. co-workers at lunch time). "If "they" can't even get an
interior display to work properly, then what's under the hood must really be
scary!"

Also...on a high note: I passed my California BAR-90 smog check yesterday. I
had inquired to the Digest about the fuel vapor system check
procedures...there were none except for the fuel cap pressure test. In my
case the visual inspection was (ahem) cursory at best. The tailpipe sniff
came in better than it did in 1999 and 2001, at about 10 - 15% of allowed
maximums. This engine has not been touched in 25K miles except for oil
changes!
