S3 Spider power junction
Hi Group:
I recently spent quite some time trying to get the power windows in my '87
Spider Veloce to operate better (smoother/faster). Of all the things I
did, the one that made the biggest difference was cleaning up the
connections on the main power junction in the engine bay. This is the
electrical connector mounted on the left inner fender that ties together
the alternator output and three other large wires that lead to the starter
and the fuse box. The large stud/nut in the center was corroded to the
point where it was causing a voltage drop of almost 1 full volt. I cleaned
the stud and nut with a small rotary brush in a Dremel tool, and also
installed new ring terminals on all the wires. While bad grounds are a
more common problem on our Alfa's, that power junction is especially
exposed, and looks to be a major weak spot that should be checked on all
'86> Spider's.
