No, I've heard that what you do is take a pair of magnetic die (from, say, a travel version of Yahtzee) and roll it while shaking the crank over your head like a shaman.  If it comes up snake-eyes, you need to re-grind the crank.  If it comes up 7 or 11, you are good to go.  Any other combination and you need to roll again.

Or, you could always use a Magic 8 Ball.
