New to Alfa, Get an Owner's Manual

Being new to the Alfa Digest and "old" to Alfa Romeo, I've
still got my 79 Spider bought brand new in Hawaii of all places,
I find it interesting that quite a few people, very new to Alfas
I presume, ask questions like what kind of oil should I put in
my differential or where is the drain plug located on my
transmission. I *strongly* recommend that everyone new to Alfas
get a copy of your year's Owner's Manual and read it from cover to
cover. The Alfa Owner Manuals, at least mine anyway, has a wealth of
information, including what type of oil to use where and how often you
should change it and where the locations of the fill and drain plugs
are and how much to torque them, how to replace lights, how to torque
your head and how much of a torque to put on your spark plugs, etc, etc.
The manual of course will not give you all of the details and will not
help you remove your engine or trans, but it will tell you the basic
maintenance requirements and keep you from stripping the threads on
your most used maintenance plugs, etc..
If you didn't get an Owner's Manual when you bought your car used, then
get a copy of one of the repair manuals from International Auto or one
of the other Alfa mail order vendors, you will be very glad that you did.
