Remembering Fred DiMatteo
On behalf of the family of Fred DiMatteo (his children, grandchildren,
sisters, and numerous nieces and nephews) we extend our gratitude for
your outpouring of thoughts and sympathies. We are especially
appreciative of all the warm comments made but particularly grateful
for the friendships over the years. He was very proud and thankful he
could contribute. It meant everything to him.
I read all the e-mail messages and cards sent to him while he was
fighting for his life in the hospital. He cried and wished he could go
home to get on the computer and respond. He wished he could help more
people. It is ironic that in his later years he was confined to the
computer and telephone when in his younger and mobile days he would
make "HOUSE" calls so to speak. I remember many occasions when if an
Alfisiti was having problems somewhere near where he lived, and
couldn't get rolling, he would venture out (often in the middle of the
night) with tools and parts to help the stranded person.
He was a loyal and dedicated Alfisiti who always wanted to do more. He
left a list of things he wanted to do that would take a small army to
achieve. He was always thinking, right up to the very end. May we all
have the energy and skills to achieve what he did. The honor awarded
him by AROC at the last convention, and the presentation at Orlando
last October made him cry. I remember him scooting around the Portofino
Hotel courtyard looking at all the cars and talking to his friends with
a big smile on his face. There are lots of memories. We will always
remember you.
Again, on behalf of the family, we thank you sincerely. Maybe I'll see
some of you in Fort Lauderdale this July at the convention.
Peter DiMatteo.
