RE: Spider top installation...
Brad -
If it is a reputable upholstry shop that knows what they are doing it is
probably worth paying them to do it.
I've installed several spider tops over the years. It is not a profitable
job for me as it is very time consuming to do properly.
If you are a patient person, able to do most things on your car yourself,
and have the time go for it and do it yourself.
Since I do just about everything on my own cars and those belonging to my
customers it's hard for me to be objective about difficulty. Replacing a
convertible top is somewhere between difficult and a real pain to do
properly. That being said, it is not rocket science either, so if you take
your time and check your work every step of the way before proceeding, it
should come out well.
The top manual is well worth the price, but there is a lot that is left out
as in most manuals.

Subject: Spider top installation...
Hello All,
I need to get a new top installed on my '88 Spider
(New Twillfast II top from Duetto Motors). I just came
back from my local auto upholstery shop and he wants
$550 (CND) to install it. While looking through my IAP
catalog I see that they have a top installation manual
($12.95)...here is my question...has anyone out there
done this install themselves and if so did you have
this manual? How hard was the install? Is it worth the
money to have the upholstery shop do it?
