Finally started -- dash cracking

The dash on my 74 Spider has started cracking. I noticed it yesterday. The
crack runs from the windshield to the passenger side top air vent so far.
I've seen other spiders where it continues from the air vent across the
entire dash.

Besides replacing the dash, or perhaps a cap (personally I don't like
caps), is there anything I can do to keep it from spreading or to possibly
repair it?
