wiper linkage

The mention of wiper motors/linkages in some recent posts led me to inspect
my poorly functioning wipers. The linkage is pretty gunked up, and dry. So
what should be used to lubricate the linkage joints? Oil, grease? Sorry if
it's a stupid question, just never really thought about it before.
