Slow down, son, you'll burn somebody!

Edward wrote: My spider needs a new exhaust system. I was reading
Click and Clack this weekend and they were saying holes in the muffler
could cause the valves to burn due to not enough back pressure

Anthony wrote: The car was completely stock, but I installed a set of
euro headers and euro exhaust system. I did not adjust the fuel mixture.
Later that night, out on the highway north Albany NY I burned a valve. I
had always chalked it up to a possible lean mixture with improved
breathing that burned my valve.

I write: So if someone is considering headers, or freer flowing
entrails out the back, what would he or she do?

(Points to anyone who can identify the oblique reference in my subject
line above.)
