powering oxygen sensor on older car

I have a 3-wire oxygen sensor on my '82 GTV-6 because that's what I had 
lying around, but I'd like to be able to take advantage of it--can anyone 
recommend a good circuit to tap into to power it?  Am I correct that the 
heated sensors are heated all the time when the car's on?  It's not just 
for the first x minutes after startup or something, is it?
