Re: alfa-digest V9 #352

Thanks to all who responded to my butcherous request for info on the
Giulietta/Giulia engine/tranny swap. And thanks to Tom for pointing out my
indefensible spelling error. I thought I set up the spellchecker on that
one however it seems I didn't (no excuse really).

I have info that a 2L will in fact fit, and thanks for the hint on using the
Alfetta sump. I thought it was actually deeper than the 105 sumps ?

I've also been advised that the rear axle from a Giulia (put the i's first,
put the i's first !) will fit if the spring perches are swapped out.

As far as my preferences for a vehicle, I was looking at Sprints 'cause I
figured they would be cheaper than Spiders, and was unsure if there were
many 750/101 Spiders in Oz. I've been advised that prices are similar
because the Sprints are popular in Europe, and that Spiders were relatively
plentiful thanks to our US cousins 1960's appetite for such things. Now I
simply need to kill a 101 owner and prise the car keys from his still warm
grasp. Yep they are hard to come by over here !!

Yes, they're different for that reason -- on the spider. Don't believe the
hoods (bonnets) are different on the sprints or saloons or SS's or TZ's, but

then I don't have any of those, so I won't claim to be an expert.

I think I remember discussion on the 750/101 list about this very topic (and

some mild flames about authenticity, but we won't go there) and the basic
resolution is the proper set of engine mounts will make the difference. They

may even be available off the shelf from one or more of the usual suppliers.

You still get to fabricate a set of exhaust manifolds/headers and a few
other
things ... challenging is a good descriptive term for the effort.

Mr. Besic, you have a 2L in your 750/101 spider hot rod, don't you? Care to
share?
