Yes the US spec Alfas with Spica was down on HP compared to the carbureted
Euro spec Alfas. But it is not a direct comparison since the European cars
had different cams with more lift and different distributor advance curve. I
would love to get the opportunity to dyno test three 74 Alfas, one a
completely stock US spec car, one a completely stock Euro car and the last
one US spec but with re-curved distributor and Euro cams. I bet there would
be very little difference, possible with a slight low end torque advantage
to the carbureted car and a slight top end advantage to the Spica car with
Euro cams and distributor due to the fact that the auxiliary venturi of the
carbs restrict the airflow more than the spica throttle bodies.
