weber info needed

So i'm in the process of learning about Weber 40DCOEs and how to rebuild
them in an effort to get my new Giulia Super to run after sitting some 10+
years. I have an old Motorbooks shop manual which if nothing else has a
good schematic of the carbs.

All of the various moving parts, ie. barrels, plungers and throttle shaft
had been frozen due to severe gumming. As of now i have everything removed,
cleaned, lubed and reinstalled, but i'm not sure all is well with the
accelerator pump/rod unit.
This is the U shaped rod which moves a small brass barrel up and down in
it's bore, and is activated by a cam on the throttle shaft.

What has me puzzled, is that when the throttles are closed the cam pushes
the accelerator rod up by about 3mm. As soon as the throttles are opened,
the cam moves out of contact with the rod, which then falls downward by the
same 3mm, and that's about it. I can't imagine that this is the correct
extent of this actuation, as it can hardly have any effect on anything?
The manual does not specifiy what the full range of motion of this unit is
supposed to be. Could someone please help me out on this one?

As to the California smog law business, i would urge Californians to write
to their own representatives, whoever they may be, as opposed to Senator
Florez who is not going to give a damn about opinions from outside his
constituency. Also it couldn't hurt to have representatives from the AROSC
and ARA write in on behalf of the entire membership.
