Gary,

If Alfa recommends a goop for the cooling system, use it. I have no 
experience with 164s, but I used to own an '88 Jaguar and they recommended 
Barr's Leak at every flush (actually on a semi-annual basis). It helped keep 
the system lube'd and protected.
