Electric fans, reliability improvement? Read this if you have an aftermarket fan...

I'm still dumbfounded by my turn of events today. I've been driving my
spider the last few days since my "new" Saab tried to eat it's
serpentine belt on Saturday. No problem, since the spider is the most
reliable car I have these days since I know every nut and bolt on it
(althought it's still leaking... another subject for another post).

But today the electric fan I installed last summer decided to separate
the motor from it's fan! The motor was happily spinning away at the end
of the drive, but the blade was just resting between the frame and
radiator. Luckily it was a relatively cool day in the bay area today
(yes I know half of you are digging out from old man winter), and even
more so the drive the drive from Marin over the normally traffic-choked
Golden Gate bridge was almost traffic free. What are the odds of
that?!?

So tomorrow an OEM, engine-driven plastic fan goes back on until I can
pull the electric fan and diagnose the problem, then it goes back to the
manufacturer for a refund and I search for a new one. I'll withhold
said mfg's name until I see how well they handle my complaint. Needless
to say I'd be complaining a lot louder if I had just toasted my rebuilt
engine!

Stumped,
