I can corroborate your solution.  I had to do the same thing and the fix was 
suggested by Wes Ingram.  It is easy to do if your starter has two posts as 
you describe.  Also, to trouble shoot simply pull the wire leading from the 
starter solenoid to the cold start solenoid at the cold start solenoid while 
the problem is occurring.
