liner removal

I successfully used the following method to remove the liners.
With engine still in car, remove head. Put two pair standard
vise grip pliers
180 degrees apart at top of a liner. Use paper or cloth to
prevent scratching. Jack up a rear wheel. Put transmission in 5th
gear. Gently use the rear wheel to bounce the piston against the
vise grips, knocking the liner loose. Repeat for the other
liners. The vise grips intruded less than an inch from the top of
the liner, i.e., the piston was near to the top of its travel to
contact the pliers; the liners pulled free easily after the
initial movement. I
am not an expert but got this idea from the Braden book that
suggested using clamps when turning the engine with the head off
to _avoid_ knocking loose the liners. Jim
