Or you could buy a cheap hose cutter designed for the purpose ??

I've always found a pair of gardening secetuers(sp) work a treat.

What I have used in the past is a cutter for PVC pipe. It is a ratchet
affair
that holds as you squeeze down. It makes the cleanest cuts you can imagine.
No
slips with the knife and can cut larger sizes if you get one for bigger PVC
pipe.
