Cutting rubber hoses

"Use 5/16 (8 mm) hose.  Cut the hose with a utility knife.  Get an
Exacto knife with a long pointed blade to finish cutting the old hose under
the "hat" at each end of the hose."

What I have used in the past is a cutter for PVC pipe. It is a ratchet affair
that holds as you squeeze down. It makes the cleanest cuts you can imagine. No
slips with the knife and can cut larger sizes if you get one for bigger PVC
pipe.
