My brother bought an old Mercedes diesel on eBay and modified it to run
on used cooking oil and grease. He works at a college and they give him
the used french fry grease-- he basically drives for free and buys no
gasoline. His setup has one tank for filtered biodiesel and a second
for the raw grease. The engine starts on the first tank, and powers a
heater to melt the crud in the 2nd tank. Once the 2nd tank is liquid,
it switches over. He says it gets good mileage and technically good
emissions, but smells a bit like french fries while operating.
