mid engine Alfetta (?) project

With regards to "John Hertzman" comments have a look at
the alfa 33 list : http://disc.server.com/Indices/20413.html
Or http://pbay0.tripod.com/downloads/downloads.htm

Don't know if the links are still accurate but a simple search though google
ect should find them.

Here's a run down
Sud's had a 1.3lt to 1.5lt 8 valve motor.
33 series 1,2 had 1.3-1.7lt 8 valve motors.
33 series 3 had the same as above but with fuel injection
and got the 1.7 16 valve motor. There is talk that there was a 1.8 diesel,
but I cant comment on that.

As for tuning here is a good example

The Alfasud ti with 1286 cm3 engine was used as basis for the Trofeo
Alfasud. Those cars were prepared for racing purposes with an Autodelta-made
kit. Besides the compulsory safety equipment (full roll cage, fire
extinguisher, bucket seat etc.), the kit included a larger front air dam,
wheelarch extensions and a larger rear spoiler made of plastic which was
intended to give the car more down force at top speed. The suspension got
new coil springs and shock absorbers and 8" x 13" Campagnolo alloy wheels
with 235 / 45 x 13 tyres (specially designed Pirelli P7 Corsa slicks or rain
low profile tyres). The engine also received an intensive treatment.
So there were for example two Weber 44 IDF 20/200 - 21/200 twin-choke
downdraft carburators included in the kit. A new exhaust pipe - which endet
below the driver's door - assured a low exhaust counter-pressure. In the
begining the modified engine developped 115 bhp at 6500 rpm. Till 1981 the
power output had increased up to 126 to 128 bhp at 8000 rpm. With such a
powerful engine under the bonnet, the Alfasud ti's could reach a top speed
of nearly 200 kph.

A pretty big difference between the Alfa Boxer and the beetle is the fact
that alfa's is water cooled.
The 1.7 16valve has been used in Britain as replacement motor for a beetle
by the way.
(Found in one of my google search's.)

For those interested http://www.europeancarweb.com/ has their old GTV6
project car series for viewing.

Hope this is of interest.
