You can also check the clearance between the bottom of the pan and the
crossmember.  You should have room to slide your fingers in there.  Also, the
bottom of the pan studs should not extend below the bottom of the
crossmember.

Digesters:
My fan exploded. Fred suggested checking the engine mounts.  They seem fine.
Engine does not move when shaken by hand or by reving engine.  Any
suggestions?
Should I bother replacing the fan shroud which was destroyed by the fan?
