Main reason I didn't put my battery in the trunk

Further to explain why I put the battery behind the passenger seat...

I often carry cameras with aluminum tripods on recreational trips, and the tripod is always in the trunk---as are various tools at other times.

The battery box is, in fact, a marine vented one, covered and strong. But I wanted no possibility of shorting if something did somehow get across the battery's poles. The Spider doesn't smell gassy in the trunk, but as Mr. Hertzmann observed, the gas tank is right there. Also, if that little T connection on the gas tank vent pipe gets loose, there certainly are gas fumes present. Whether they are ever sufficient to explode from a spark, I'll leave to someone else's investigation.

YMWV, folks. Now, I've got to get offline because one of our number has wrapped his daily driver around a tree out in the woods and I might have to make a run to the hills.

Cheers,
Joe
