I prefer to disconnect the ground first. If you disconnect the positive first
you risk touching the chassis or someting grounded with the wrench that your
are using to disconnect the terminal. If you disconnect the ground first the
only thing you have to worry about is touching your wrench between the
negative and positive terminals. Either case it is unlikely to have a problem
but probably a little less likely disconnecting the ground first.
As far as sparks occuring while disconnecting, it doesn't matter which you
disconnect first. The difference in voltage between the terminal and lead
being disconnect (which is what causes the spark) is the same on the + as it
is the -.
