And this is still not legal in all states... some specifically (and stupidly) ban hydrocarbon refridgerants. In theory you are also supposed to change the oil to R134a compatible oil. Not sure why as HC12 and it's equivalents are perfectly compatible with R12 mineral oils.

I did this conversion about 4 months ago... Search the archives for a message with the subject: "Ice, Ice, Baby: Milano AC retrofit"

It works great, wasn't very difficult. Only tricky part was getting the quick-release connector onto the fitting. The Milano distributor is just in the way. I used an angle grinder to shave an mm or two off the quick release connector and it cleared no problem.
