Re: spider exhaust manifolds. -Mig weld them



The welding of cast iron manifolds comes up all the time on the welding
newsgroup.   While there are many ways that might work, there are a few
ways that have a higher percentage of success.

The general concensus is:

Grind out crack to insure full penetration.
Clean weld area with stainless steel brush.
Preheat  (an oven works great if the wife isn't watching)
Stick weld with high nickle content rod.
Peen weld with hammer immediately.
Cool slowly...  bury part in ash, lime, vermiculite

MIG welding is not what you want to do...   The heat is much too
concentrated.   But if that's all you have who knows, maybe you'll get
lucky.   I'd still try improve my odds by following most of the recipe
above.
