Re: alfa-digest V9 #66

That's gotta be close. I had an XK-140 MC roadster once and It threw a main bearing due to constant cycles of overheating. I rented a 'cherry-picker' engine hoist and pulled the engine out of the car in my apartment parking stall. The metal wheels of the cherry-picker actually sank into the asphalt under the weight of the engine! At the time, I surmised, after man-handling it around, that the engine surely weighed more than 600 pounds. But as to whether its actually as much as 750, I cannot say but it wouldn't surprise me. The engine is physically immense. It is very tall, the block is cast iron and the heads are aluminum. The 14-quart oil sump is also huge and heavy (the Jag engine counted upon engine oil to assume some of the cooling duties).

Speaking of weights, I've heard that the Jag 6-cyl was something like
750lbs. Can anyone verify that?
