Subject: 164 Engine High Temperature Light

Hi all,

For a while now the tempearture gauge light comes on as I start the car, stays
on for a while
and then it goes off. This happens again when the car cools off and I start
again.
I don't think there is a problem with overheating. I suspect it is an
electrical
short somewhere. Has anyone had this problem? Is there a place in the wire
path to check for possible break in the insulation?

Thank you,

The ground/ earth wire has come off the thermostat housing.
When the conductivity of the gauge sender is right (cold engine) it allows enough 'lectric through to operate the lamp.
