Re: Big wheelz
Well Tessie, thanks for the tip. The Mini Cooper S does have 16" run
flat tires (195/55R-16) mounted on wheels only 6.5 inches in width. I
believe a wheel with those dimensions could be fitted to a Spider
without clearance problems. This could be easier than I thought! Just
gotta find a wheel with the correct offset.
Could not seem to find out who makes the tires on the Mini but I did
find Dunlop makes a run-flat called the SP Sport 9000 DSST in the
following 16" sizes:
225/50WR16
225/55WR16
225/60WR16
Anyone know anything about these tires? Or what size might be closest
to my original overall diameter? I had Dunlop's once years ago and was
not impressed, but that was years ago.
I recall seeing a whizzy tire size calculator online at some point but
have lost the url, I'd bet my thermostatic actuator that one of you
knows what it is. Anyone?
Upon further research today (is it obvious that my business is dead
this time of year?) I discovered that the issue of monitoring the
pressure in these tires has become quite simple also. There is a
wireless system available. Very cool stuff. Here is what I found:

Just sharing info that may or may not be news to anyone, but I am that
much closer to tossing my spare.
