164 question

The recent post by a UK digester regarding a book on the 164 sparked
something. I have an old copy of "Quadrifoglio" from the late '80s/early
'90s that discusses the early '80s development of the 164. In one of the
drawings, the car was called the "156."

Does anyone know why it was later called the 164 and/or why 156 was
initially considered and then used as a designation later?

Thx,

Kit
