Gas fumes in Spider

How's the condition of the rubber boot around the fuel filler itself,
both the rubber pipe and the molded boot that the pipe comes through.
The boot is to catch any overflow from filling the tank and drain it out
of the car instead of into the trunk. :-)

Also, what's the condition of the check valve on the vapor recovery
canister in the trunk. If that's stuck the recovered vapors can enter
the trunk. Lastly, check the 'soft" line from the fuel filter to the
hard line under the car and the soft line to the fuel rail.

The down turned exhaust pipe was standard on late 70's Alfa Spiders,
IIRC. It does put exhaust fumes more into the slipstream than the
straight exhaust. The Ansa twin pipe is the worst since it is
relatively short and dumps the exhaust fumes right into the low pressure
pocket in front of the tail lights.

I'm not sure I'd worry about it from a health perspective-- the Spider
doesn't seal that tightly even in the best of circumstances! :-)
