re "oriental" rant



Sure, the Japanese have copied, and in many cases "improved," original
designs, but isn't that the nature of technical innovation?  Who really has a
credible copyright on anything these days?  The Japanese have produced some
incredible cars & motorcycles over the years, and they should be commended for
the (generally) first-rate quality & reliability of their products.  Why waste
time critizing the "Orientals" when one can look right in one's own backyard? 
The innovation, design, quality & reliability of American car companies is
appalling.  Surely, we should expect more from Detroit, after all, they almost
invented the automobile.  Instead we get the likes of Pontiac's Gran Prix and
innumerable variations of the SUV...
