Re: Exhaust Question
Gabriel,
I believe only the earlier Kamm Tail Spiders (without the rear spoiler)
had the tailpipe turned down originally. I don't think that should be
the problem in your car.
Have you checked the spare tire well for any rust holes?
Have you made sure that the little check valve in the trunk that lets
air into the gas tank, when they get stuck open they let fumes from the
tank into the trunk. You should find it located in a hose near that
black plastic canister that resides next to your left rear shock tower.
Sure I realize that would make more of a gas smell than an exhaust
smell, but at least on my Spica Spider, the exhaust often smells very
gas rich.
I personally just got done resealing some very poorly placed speaker
holes on the area above the cargo shelf. They vented the trunk
directly into the cockpit. I cut a couple of sheet metal panels to
cover the holes and screwed them down over a bead of caulk. Don't know
yet if it made any difference (did I mention that I have had similar
fume problems?), as the car is now up on stands waiting for me to get
around to replacing a motor mount (yes, the crank pulley getting shiny
from rubbing on the stabilizer bar means "change that trashed mount,
and while you're at it, fix the Spica oil leak so the new mount lasts a
little longer!). Sorry, those are some of the things that I need to
get around to doing.
...and install that new carpet I just got a sweet deal on from Caribou
(thanks Ed),
oh, and switch out that rear differential and all the bushings with
poly ones, and......
