Black ATF

I noticed my 94 164LS automatic transmission has much
longer delay( slip ) between shifting Drive and Reverse.
I take out dip stick and the ATF is black.
Something( clutches? ) is failing inside?

I am going to change/flush the ATF first and see if the
blackish continue.  Any suggestion is appreciated.
