Spica TA protrusion length

Someone asked how far various Spica thermostatic actuators should protrude at room temp and heated up; I didn't see a response.

Consulting Wes Ingram's book, there's a table showing the factory specs, that TAs up to '77 should be 19mm cold, 27mm at 175F degrees. Later TAs should be 22.5 cold, 29mm at 175F.

But NOTE: Wes says that table's obsolete.

His recommendation in the actual Spica tuning section is that the protrusion be at least 25mm at 175F. If you have that, you should be able to adjust the all-important end gap to .019" or less, by turning the screw under the TA.

Do NOT do as so many uninformed wrenches have, move the reference screw with the lock nut on the back end of the pump. Arthur Anderson methods of changing the points of reference do not fool a Spica pump.

Cheers,
Joe
