Re: Timing light answers

Hi again, Biba:

Changing the advance springs will change the advance curve's shape, but not it's upper limit. If you want more total advance, you'll have to do some shaving or bending of whatever mechanism is limiting the movement of the advance weights at the end of their travel. In other words, if you were to use lighter (less strong) springs, you'll get the advance to come in at lower rpms, but the total advance will remain the same. Early last year, I did find some different advance springs at AR Ricambi which I tried in a Marelli S103BA, that made a slight improvement on my '74 Spica Spider, but in the end I switched to a Bosch 041 with Crane guts replacing the points.

Dean

(snip)
I was slightly surprised no one suggested how to fix / modify the
MarelliPlex's centrifugal advance. Once again, apparently I'm not alone
with this problem. Well aware it is a spring 'situation', but how and
which one?
