Hello John,

Audi makes good cars. Best of which is my favorite, the RS2 coupe.  

But one of the first mass produced 5-valve per cylinder engine did not
come from Audi. It came from toyota in the form of the 4AGE-20 valve
with quad butterfly throttle. I believe it came out in 1991 in the
AE-101 toyota Levin/Trueno and later on matured into a pretty good
looking AE-111 Levin BZG. 

Also Fiat came out with the Punto Speedgear (CVT) back in 1999. Not
sure when Audi came out with it, I think it came out with the B6 Audi
A4.
