spider air box, axle questions
In the discussion about 1750 vs 2000 engines, someone offered to exchange a
1750 airbox for a 2000 airbox. Assuming that we are discussing the
cylindrical air box for carbs, my parts book gives the same part number for
1750 and 200 Euro cars. Is there a difference? I am planning to install an
airbox off a 1750 spider on to my '73 GTV.
The 4.56 differential on my GTV is in poor shape. I plan to replace it with
a 4.10. What must be changed to make the speedometer read correctly? My
parts book shows the same speedo drive gear for all transmissions. Is the
gearing different in the speedometers. Will I need to use a speedometer from
a car with a 4.10 axle?
Finally, I have a 4.10 axle on my 1750 spider parts car. I know that some
people will tell me to forget it and find a more modern axle. But I may use
it as it is free. I don't want to have LH thread wheel nuts on my GTV. Is it
a pain to switch the hubs from my '73 4.56 axle on to my '70 4.10? If it is
a reasonable job, is there a preferred procedure?
Thanks,
Ed Prytherch
