I'll ask the dumb question - does it start all the time when you use
your bypass switch?

If so, then think about it.  There's nothing wrong with the starter or
solenoid, the problem lies in the ignition switch.

I'd add a starter relay to the circuit, it might prolong the life of
your existing ignition switch, and if you end up replacing your existing
ignition switch the starter relay will greatly extend the life of the
new one.
