AARGGHH!! Minor Spider rant.
If I ever use the phrase "While I'm at it, I should ..." somebody shoot
me. I've been spending my evenings and weekends converting my '81 Spider
from FI to carbs. Things started off really well, which should have
warned me.
The fuel injector stuff came off with no problems. If anyone needs,
wants, an 81 Spica injector setup, contact me. I'll even throw in my Wes
Ingram Spica book.
Anyway, one of the heater hoses was really spoungy. So, while I was
there I decided to change it. The new hose of course was a good deal
firmer than the previous so when I went to put it on it wouldn't make the
weird little wiggle that was needed to get it back on the brass tube of
the heater core. The brass tube started to flex. So I had to pull the
heater to make sure that the solder joint wasn't broken. After over an
hour of grunting, cursing and getting anti-freeze all over the floor car,
it finally came free.
I opened it up to get to the heater core and was welcomed by a shower of
rust. Removed the heater core, found more rust. Curiousity drove me to
continue to dismantle, using an little persuasion and a large hammer, I
freed the fan blade to find my once heater motor a twisted mass of once
windings and rust.
So after all this, the carb conversion is going great. Does anyone have
a heater motor that they want to part with. I'm struggling with paying
the $165 that IAP wants for it.
Better now. Thanks,
AJ Lindaman
