Off-topic threads and the alfa list generally
In #1128 Colin Talcroft makes some good points regarding (definitely
paraphrasing here) not getting too up-tight about posts which aren't
directly Alfa related. He then goes on to say it is a shame many replies
to Alfa related questions come off-list.
*********
Having a foot firmly planted into two camps, let me start with his
latter comment first. While this might come as a shock to those who've
read my comments and questions, the 750-101 Group's 'management' isn't
amused by my somewhat casual style. I too said (to the management) many
of my replies are off-list depriving the others being able to 'source'
the information. Okay, I've asked a lot, no make that A LOT, of
questions (in my style) but virtually all were answered giving very
helpful / good information.
Obviously I agree that any Alfa related answer should be 'published' for
all to read.
I personally think Richard is a saint (oops, used that term recently)
for being as tolerant as he is regarding non- Alfa related topics. I get
the feeling he lets it go for awhile, hoping it'll go away, and when it
doesn't, says, "Enough already." While I've not joined, I think it's
very cool he started in essence an 'All Other' discussion group.
Trust me those who are also on the 750-101 know full well, it is pretty
much zero tolerance. Wanna see my whupping scars? Your post Shall be
Specifically about 750-101's. Period. Amen.
Okay, I'm tired of SUV outrages and yes, I know where the scroll button
is. But hasn't everyone pretty much figured out you're preaching to the
converted (or whatever the expression is)?
I've skimmed the safety comments, but then, lo and behold John Hertzman
adds some interesting facts regarding Alfa's efforts regarding safety.
I'm purely surmising if someone was considering buying a non-Alfa or
simply wanted to talk about another 'make', Richard wouldn't mind if
someone posted a brief message regarding their request for information
or to express their views on other cars on the Alfa Digest, with
something like, "Meet me on the Off-Topic Digest."
I believe that's why he was kind enough to set it up in the first place.
