RE: '68-'69 Euro 105 brakes - problems?

I suppose I'm a poster child for this issue, I currently have 2 cars, both the
same age, one with the euro single circuit (no problems) and the other with
the USA dual circuit (oy vey). I also owned a USA dual circuit GTV that never
gave me a problem but that was 15 years ago. Parts for the single circuit
system are widely available in Europe, including new MC's (reasonable) and
Boanldi (expensive) boosters. The dual circuit MC's are more difficult.though
you can get rebuild kits from Alfa Stop and White Post will resleeve them. The
boosters (Lockheed) aren't available and the rebuild kits are scarce plus you
multiply the cost by 2. You can replace them with Bonaldi's (2x expensive) or
completely bypass them. One other trouble area is the remote reservoir on
both cars, the hoses breakdown over time and can leave you suddenly without
brakes. Its a special brake fluid resistant hose which isn't widely available
but can be found.

You can always replace the floor pedal system with hanging pedals if you can
find someone to do the work (around $500 + parts).

On my 2 cars the single circuit system works well but its a low mileage car
and though it wasn't well maintained it wasn't in horrible shape when I got
it. My dual circuit Berlina has been a nightmare which I still haven't sorted
out but my current theory is that the proportioning valve is the problem. The
car itself has high mileage and was poorly maintained like most old Berlinas.
If the brakes in the car you're looking at are in good condition, that's
probably the most important factor followed up by regular fluid changes.
