GM->Alfa question

after listening to a bunch of flaming with a very thin basis, i'm going to
pose the GM->Alfa question in a manner that might actually at some level
be answerable.

there is a very distinctive Marque which was borged by GM a few years ago.
i am refering to Saab.

i have personally never owned a GM Saab. in the past i've owned and enjoyed
a 1973 4 door 99, a 1978 5 door 99, and a 1979 5 door 900 turbo.

surely we can find a long time Saab owner who can talk about whether or not
current products sold as Saabs have any real connection to their roots or
not. yes, i know that they are now based on Opel platforms, but platforms
aren't everything. yes, i know that the first original GM Saab had horrid
bump steer problems of a sort that never afflicted a real Saab, but that's
an engineering mistake that can be undone.

so is there anyone on this list with both old Saab and new Saab experience?
has GM wrecked Saab?

thanks,
  richard
