Engine no longer missing

I recently described a pernicious, randomly occurring miss in my '72 Spider's engine, and asked for guesses. The only suggestion I got was to use Bosch Platinum Plus-4 plugs. Didn't have them handy, but I'd just found a brand new set of Bosch Platinums in the VCR tape rack, where my daughter and her house organizing friend had stored them, and they made the miss noticeably worse.

Must not be the plugs. I put the fairly new NGK's back in.

I had an old Crane nee Allison ignition installed, but had heard that they are, "Either good or bad, they either work, or they don't." Well, not exactly. Yesterday, we replaced the optical sensor and black box with points and condenser, and the car's running better than it has in a long, long time.

Learning point: Electronic ignitions can go bad by increments, and like the frog in heating water, you don't know it's happening until you're cooked.

Someone out there will want to know this.

Cheers,
Joe
