Tennessee Switchbacks

I have to squeeze this in during a busy day.

Just returned to Atlanta from Mountain City, TN. Attended the races at
Bristol Motor Speedway for the first time (Siemens, my company, sponsors
Scott Wimmer in Busch and Winston Cup and has its name on the Hut Stricklin
#23 Dodge), and loved both races, though I can't call myself a racing fan.
What I really loved was the drive from Mountain City to BMS. You cross two
mountains with switch backs that the 82 Spider and I had never experienced
before. Tons of 2nd gear action, and even downshifting to 1st. None of it
as Fred might have advised, but the kind of driving where you audibly say "I
can't believe this road!" I drove it 4 times, twice in daylight, twice at
night. If you get a chance to be anywhere near TN 421 between BMS and
Mountain City, and you're in an Alfa, don't hesitate. Go.

Mountain City is a cute town, and I stayed in a nice B&B called Prospect
Hill. Nice place, though the hostess was a bit gabby.

I am so proud of my faded red/orange 82 with 115,000 miles. What a babe.
She's originally a Florida car, so she had never seen the mountains before.
She's squeaking and groaning worse than ever, but she never let me down. In
fact, she loved it. Plus, I got 25.5 mpg, while around town I've been
getting less than 20 for some time now.

What a road. What a car. What a trip.

Do I sound like I'm 45?
